Alage and plants have a lot of things in common. They are both living organisms. They both photosynthesize, making energy from sunlight. Both have cells that contain nuclei. But while kelp and other so-called seaweed look an awful lot like plants, they have much simpler anatomy than plants do. Plants have connective tissues, leaves, stems, and roots. Kelp and other algae do not. Plants typically live on land, and algae live primarily in water.
